Childline Street Concerts 2010
Fundrasising & Awareness

Rebecca will be performing outdoor concerts with an emphasis on fundraising for Childline and raising awareness of the charity among the general public.

A full schedule of these performances can be found on the news page.

Rebecca is also planning another charity Christmas concert. News on this will appear on the website in the Autumn, as well as any other fundraising events.

Charity Fundraising

Childline

Rebecca has been fundraising for Childline since the launch of her debut album Cantare in October 2008. Since then she has raised over £2,500 for the charity through a mixture of CD sales, charity street performances and fundraising concerts.

Both her albums, Cantare (2008, re-released 2009) and Memory (2009) help with her fundraising as 50p from every copy of her CD goes to the charity. So far, she has sold over 4,000 CDs, raising over £2000 through CD sales alone.

Furthermore, Rebecca has added to her total by street collections during the charity outdoor concerts and by organising a charity christmas concert in December 2009, at The Bar Convent (see left).

Rebecca will be touring the UK again this year with her charity street performances where copies of her CD will be available. Some events will be soley dedicated to the charity with Childline buckets put out for donations to maximise the income for the charity. A schedule for performances is on the news page.

Rebecca chose the charity because helping to support children - the next generation of the society - is very important to her. She volunteered for a children's singing club in York in 2008-9 called The New Generation Singing Club. She even invited the club to sing a few songs at her album launch in 2008, which raised £250 for the Lord Mayor's charities for 2009. For the past year she has also been a volunteer child mentor with The Island, a york based charity offering mentoring to children between 8-12 years of age.

Total raised £3,000!

To donate directly to Childline please go to Rebecca's Just Giving page which is helping her to meet her target of raising £5,000 for the charity.

About Childline
Childline was founded in the 1980s by Esther Rantsen following an episdoe of That's Life where they dealt with the subject of child abuse, prompting many calls from audience members. The service provided a confidential phone line for children to call about anything from bullying and exam stress to advice after an overdose. Unfortunately, due to a funding crisis in 2005 the charity was in danger of having to close the night service - a time when the most distressing calls from children and young people are often made. The NSPCC took over Childline and saved the service, but this is by no means the end fo the story. The service still cannot answer all the calls, with the average basic call costing £4.

You can find out more about the charity and donate independently at www.nspcc.org.uk. You can buy Rebecca's CDs from the music & shop page, which also donated 50p to the charity.

Cancer Research Race for Life 10k

June 2010

Rebecca threw caution to the wind and embarked upon the physical challenge of her lifetime - a 10k run for Cancer Research!

Here are some pictures below. She managed to complete the run on the hottest day of the year so far, on Sunday 27th June, on York Racecourse with no shade and no breeze! As you can imagine, she looks a little hot... but at least she got a medal!

You can continue to sponsor Rebecca for a bit longer by clicking here.

With her running partner, Rachel, showing off their medals - very hot, very dehydrated and very sweaty!

Before the race beings... still quite fresh and ready to go..

After the race - red face, dehydrated and very happy to be queuing up for a cold drink. The blue sky shows just how little help the weather gave the runners - blazing sun with no cloud cover. Still, a good day seeemd to be had by all and lots of money was raised!
